Assistant Division Supervisor

Location: Syracuse, NY 
Reports to: Division Supervisor

Role Overview

An established utility construction contractor is seeking an Assistant Division Supervisor to support civil utility projects for a major client. This newly created role will provide increased field presence and take on day-to-day project responsibilities, allowing the Division Supervisor to focus on larger, more complex work.

The Assistant Division Supervisor will work closely with the Division Supervisor and client representatives to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all requirements. This position is offers rapid growth opportunities into broader supervisory responsibilities and eventual succession into a senior leadership role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage assigned projects from start-up to completion, coordinating with client representatives and internal teams.

  • Review project scopes, request forms, and work requests.

  • Participate in scheduling and planning discussions with client leads.

  • Coordinate permits (civil, environmental, prevailing wage), locates, and GPR.

  • Conduct site visits, evaluate safety/logistics, and support crews with work plans and schedules.

  • Manage subcontractors, materials, and vendors as needed.

  • Complete pre-construction checklists to ensure job readiness.

  • Maintain daily communication with client leads on project updates, changes, and field issues.

  • Perform informal safety audits, review Job Briefs, and uphold OSHA and company safety standards.

  • Provide field presence, particularly on remote or critical projects.

  • Support the Division Supervisor in preparing status updates and project coordination.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience in construction, either in the field (e.g., foreman) or in a project management/coordinator role.

  • Must have previous experience managing self-performing crews & subcontractor oversight

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Construction Technology, or related field preferred but not required.

  • Strong organizational and process management skills.

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.

  • Utility construction experience preferred.  Other heavy civil & industrial construction experience will be considered

  • OSHA 10 certification required (can be obtained after hire).

  • Valid Drivers License - CDL-A would be a plus but not required

  • Comfortable with significant field presence and year-round outdoor work, including winter conditions.

Compensation & Schedule

  • Salary: $80,000 – $125,000, depending on experience and education.

  • Full-time salaried position (straight time, no overtime).

  • Heavy local travel to project sites; minimal overnight travel.
