Substation Technical Consultant
Location: REMOTE
Compensation: $145-165K + 10% Bonus
A growing technology company is seeking a Substation Technical Consultant to join its team. This remote position offers the opportunity to support, implement, and configure specialized substation design software for Protection and Control (P&C) applications. The role involves guiding customers through implementation and adoption, using both technical expertise and industry knowledge to deliver the best-fit solutions.
The software suite includes tools for P&C design in AutoCAD Electrical, physical substation design in both Inventor and AutoCAD, and several supporting toolsets such as Design Sync, INEX (Inventor Export), and an Admin Toolkit.
The ideal candidate is a motivated self-starter with strong communication and problem-solving skills, a passion for technology, and the ability to work across teams. Travel is required for customer engagements, industry events, and conferences.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and support customer implementation projects (e.g., proof of concepts, pilots, full deployments)
- Gather and translate customer requirements into actionable configurations and enhancements
- Develop and maintain training materials for the P&C design toolset
- Deliver remote and in-person training sessions for internal and external users
- Create and update product documentation in alignment with new releases and updates
- Conduct product demonstrations and support the pre-sales process
- Identify, report, and help resolve product defects
- Design, test, and validate product enhancements
- Manage and respond to customer support tickets
- Create product tutorial and training videos
- Write white papers on product use and industry best practices
- Perform additional tasks as needed
Required Qualifications:
- At least 7 years of drafting or design experience using AutoCAD Electrical
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience with a Protection and Control design toolset
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or related field
- Understanding of object-oriented programming concepts and relational databases (SQL/SQLite)
- Willingness and ability to travel
- Minimum 3 years of experience in utility engineering, design, or operations
Preferred Qualifications:
- Progressive experience in high-voltage substation design and drafting
- Familiarity with Autodesk software, including: AutoCAD Map 3D, Inventor, AutoCAD Electrical, Vault, Revit, and Civil 3D
- Knowledge of project management, software development, and test-driven processes
- Broad understanding of electric distribution, transmission, and substation design

- Strong technical training and mentoring abilities
- Comfortable presenting in classroom-style and one-on-one settings
- Ability to support sales efforts through technical demonstrations
- Excellent problem-solving, verbal, and written communication skills
- Commitment to delivering a high level of customer success
- Able to work both independently and collaboratively
