Safety and Fleet Compliance Coordinator
?? Lackawanna, NY (Buffalo area)
A growing, family-owned construction company in Western New York is creating a Safety and Fleet Compliance Coordinator role dedicated to transportation and fleet safety. As our fleet and driver headcount have grown, we're looking for someone to own DOT/FMCSA compliance, driver coaching through our fleet telematics system, and safety training across our trucking and ready-mix operations — supporting a fleet of roughly 45 drivers.
What You'd Own
- Administer our fleet telematics/safety program — review footage and coach drivers on safe behaviors
- Lead toolbox talks and safety training, primarily for trucking and ready-mix teams
- Keep trucks and drivers in compliance with DOT/FMCSA regulations, including permits
- Conduct job site safety inspections and respond to driver-flagged safety concerns
- Serve as our primary point of contact with our insurance carrier for safety claims and programs
- Attend industry safety seminars and stay current on best practices
What We're Looking For
- Background in transportation, fleet, or construction safety (transportation/DOT compliance experience a strong plus)
- Working knowledge of, or strong motivation to build expertise in, FMCSA/DOT regulations
- Comfortable using fleet telematics and dash-cam systems to coach drivers
- Strong communicator, comfortable leading toolbox talks and engaging directly with drivers and crews
- Organized, detail-oriented, self-directed; able to multi-task and manage competing priorities
- Comfortable handling stressful situations while staying composed
- Motivated to grow into deeper safety and compliance expertise over time
Nice to Have
- Prior experience with GPS/fleet telematics platforms (e.g., Samsara or similar)
- CDL or hands-on experience driving a dump truck or vocational vehicle
- Experience in construction, aggregate, or ready-mix operations
Compensation & Benefits
$60,000–$95,000+ based on experience. Full-time benefits include medical coverage, 401(k), paid vacation, and paid holidays.
